Collection: Lavender for the Home
There are dozens and dozens of "natural" home care solutions out there, but all too often a read of the long and unpronounceable ingredients list still leaves one baffled as to what they contain. We find this altogether unnecessary when there are plant-based, non-toxic, simple ingredient home care remedies available that do not contain dyes, synthetics, preservatives, perfumes or other potentially undesirable ingredients. At The Lavender Store we are committed to creating home care products that are effective and safe for our families and yours.
The Fragrant Household
Long before its use as a perfume, lavender enjoyed centuries of use as a household fragrance. Among the earliest and most widespread means of enhancing home fragrance was the use of lavender stalks soaked in water and then placed on the fire to infuse the scent of lavender into the air. This is still in practice today and is an excellent way to use dried lavender stalks from your own garden.
The application of lavender infused water became particularly favored in the court of Louis XIV in Versailles, France. This is another use of lavender that is still common today for freshening linens with the added benefit of lavender's potent sleep-inducing properties.
The use of sachets of dried lavender buds in drawers and closets to keep clothing fresh and deter insects was as familiar to our ancestors as it is for us today.
Today, the ability to naturally fragrance the home without the use of chemicals is aided by the use of pure lavender essential oil in candles, room mists and diffusers.
