Collection: Lavender for the Body
The word lavender comes from the Latin word "lavare", meaning "to wash." Since its popularity in classical Rome as a bathing adjunct (accessory), lavender has been closely associated with cleansing the body, linens, home, etc.
The association became widespread in the Middle Ages when the term "lavendiers" was given to workers in the wool industry who washed the raw wool or rinsed the woolen cloth after fulling (felting a woven cloth) — an interesting, and not surprising, connection to lavender's potent insect repelling properties and usefulness in protecting wool from moths.
The cleansing and protecting properties of lavender essential oil more than explain its wide adoption as a safe and natural alternative to otherwise synthetic and/or potentially toxic chemicals and pharmaceutical agents. Its unique fragrance, as well as its significant soothing, antiseptic, and anesthetic properties, has made its use in products for the body a favorite across many cultures.
At The Lavender Store, we handcraft a wide selection of lavender products for the body. Rejuvenate and hydrate your skin with our collection of lavender lotions, cleansers, and oils for skin. Keep your skin looking fresh with superior moisturizing from lavender soaps that do not contain any harmful or toxic chemicals that could cause skin damage. Lavender is also an excellent, naturally-occurring insect repellant. It’s potent repellant properties do not rely on any synthetic chemicals to discourage mosquitos and the like.
